This mini-assignment consists of THREE parts: identity map, self-portrait, and paragraph. You should include them all in one document when you submit.
Create an identity map of yourself -- physical characteristics, background, personality traits, experiences, roles, values, interests, likes/dislikes, goals etc.
Create a simple self-portrait. Draw an outline of your head and shoulders and make a line down the center. On one side add your physical features and color it in. On the other side use your creativity to express some of the most important identity markers that may be invisible. Refer to the video Exploring perceptions about identity through self-portraits to help you.
Write a paragraph about one identity marker. Pick one identity marker on your map and/or self-portrait that is important to you that you would like to explore a little further, and that you feel comfortable sharing with others. Write a paragraph analyzing that part of your identity in more depth. You can think about the following questions to help you write the paragraph:
Why is this identity marker so important to you?
How has/does this identity marker affect you?
Can you make connections to your values, your family, your past, your future hopes, or other parts of your identity? Here you can think about how it can inform who you want to be and how you want to be the change.
Can you think of an example to illustrate what you are saying?
It can be about 200 words. However, more important than length is that you have really tried to dig a little deeper. You are trying to understand more about one part of your identity. After the analysis, you should have a deeper insight into yourself than you had before.
On one document include your identity map, self-portrait, and analysis paragraph.
See my example if you think it will help you. However, please remember, there is no one way to do this assignment (or any of the other mini-assignments). Just make sure it is meaningful to you and try to make it meaningful for your audience as well.
