Important note 1: Each of these mini-assignments will act as data sources for your final autoethnography, so you will need to save them all for easy access later.
Important note 2: We will probably not do every mini-assignment listed. Please wait until I assign it and explain it in class before you start.
The purpose of each mini-assignment is to help you further explore your own identity in terms of who you are, your relationship to the world around you, and how you want to be the change, as you journey towards self-authorship. The details about each assignment will be discussed and agreed upon together in class, with each mini-assignment worth roughly 5% of your grade. We will encourage each other to experiment with a variety of modes, such as narrative writing, poetry, drawing, collage, etc., but there will be some flexibility in terms of the modes you may choose to use to complete each mini-assignment.
You can access the assignment details through the drop-down menu under "Assignments" and "Mini-assignments".
You do not need to produce "masterpieces" or "perfect" work for these mini-assignments, and you do not need to spend a huge amount of time on most of them (unless you want to). However, you may find that many of the mini-assignments are challenging for you personally, because they push you to turn inwards and engage in deeper self-reflection and critical thought. These may not be things you have practiced much before, and that's okay. Just try to approach each mini-assignment with an open mind and heart, and be patience and kind with yourself as you give it a try.
Put in enough effort on each one until you feel that you have gained something useful from it -- i.e., that you have learned something more about yourself and made some connections to who you are and how you want to be the change.
As long as you demonstrate an attempt to engage with and complete the requirements for each mini-assignment, you will receive full credit for them. However, if a mini-assignment is incomplete or shows little thought or effort, you will be marked down.
You must submit each mini-assignment to Turnitin before the due date. I will then engage with what you have submitted and offer comments. These comments are simply me engaging with your work to give you more to think about.
First, it will not help you on your journey towards self-authorship.
Second, it generally is not good at creating a piece that is meaningful or valuable to engage with for an audience (so you will probably lose marks).
Third, it wastes everyone's time, especially your instructor's, who has to slog through it.
