This assignment consists of THREE parts: a list, your artwork, and a paragraph. These should all be put into one document to submit.
For this assignment, you will reflect on what brings you joy in life, through artistic depiction. The purpose is to explore art as a mode of expression, and to try to reflect on joy in your life and how joy shapes your identity.
This assignment is based on this video. We will watch it in class, but you can also refer to it here if you missed it.
Following a brief meditation exercise, you will be asked to reflect on your life and make a list of things or people that bring you joy.
Then choose a color that can represent each item on your list.
Create your artwork. Get out a piece of paper and draw a mini-outline of your body. Use colors to:
Start with a circle in the middle representing yourself
Fill in the rest of the outline with different colors depending on where each item on your list resonates for you
Try to focus as you do this on how each person/thing has contributed to your life
Share with a partner or small group. Ask each other questions about your art to understand more about who you are, what is important to you, and what brings you joy. Note: If you don't feel comfortable sharing, you may skip this step.
Copy and paste an image of your list and an image of your art into a document.
Below the images, write a paragraph reflecting on what you have learned about yourself and joy through this activity. In the reflection also consider how you can make connections to being the change.
Please look at my example to give you some ideas of what this assignment could look like. However, please remember there is no one way to do this assignment. You should simply try to be creative and really try to understand yourself more.
