Partners with educators to design and implement evidence-based curricula and assessments that integrate elements of deeper learning, critical thinking, information literacy, digital citizenship, creativity, innovation and the active use of technology.
Leveraging (digital) tools and resources to improve your instructional practice.
Digital tools and resources are modeled to staff at different meetings throughout the year, as well as an Inservice Day to rotate through technology topics.
Model effective standards integration across content and goal areas
This appears easier to do in the area of ELA since this LMS is also is versied in teaching English.
Encourage through collaboration the strategies for encouraging discovery, analysis, creation, and presentation
Collaboration is a primary theme among classrooms. Students are individually encouraged to discover, analyze, create and then present.
Encourages and facilitates students to become increasingly self-directed as they create (digital) products of their learning that engage them in critical thinking, collaboration and authentic, real-world problem solving.
Spaces for students to create products documenting their learning
AMS-AHS and AES Library has open spaces to work on Chromebooks to document learning projects they may be working on. Flexible seating is available with tables that have whiteboard topes
Library instruction use to promote critical thinking
Library classes are provided weekly for students in Pre-K through grade 5. This includes many think alouds as well as enjoyment of reading and literacy. Students in grades 3 through 5 also have a technology class weekly to bolster keyboarding skills plus other technology skills using Google products. Library instruction is provided to students in grades 6-8. This includes lessons in Digital Citizenship usually once a month. Grade 9 does attend a few library instructive lessons that include use of website and online book services. Grades 3-5 work on Coding to help gain more creative instruction.
This area will be integrated around standards.
Program support connections to the community
Because National Honor Society (NHS) is a part of this media-specialist's duties, many students are encouraged to support the many volunteer opportunities that the community needs. Offer all students an opportunity to connect to the community.
Support real-world problem solving by students
Lessons in digital citizenship include many real-world problems and strategies to solve them.
Leads in the selection, integration, organization, and sharing of (digital) resources and tools to support transformational teaching and learning and develop the digital creation skills of others.
Culturally responsive library programs take into account not only the content and sensitivity of lessons and supporting materials, but also what items are being purchased for the collection, what materials are being displayed or recommended to the school community, what voices are invited into the school or library for author visits or artists in residence, and what impact the work taking place within the library has on the global community. (Future Ready Schools).
Selection and reconsideration policy include collection development information and processes addressing digital resources and tools, equity, and diversity
Using the Destiny Follett system, it becomes easy to include books of equity and diversity. Curriculum tags are now a common theme among book sales. It becomes easy to use tags to include all diversity subjects in book orders. The LMS uses many sites, such as the School Library Journal and the American Association for Librarians to order and keep diverse books.
Open Education Resources included in your collection development plan
This LMS is new to Open Education Resources but has an account and is learning about it.
Curate and communicate (digital) resources to students and faculty
All resources are vetted and curated for easy use on the district website.
Policies address intellectual freedom
Students are able to seek and receive information from all points without restriction. This is becoming more open since libraries/book sales are using "tags" to show topics of books in a tag.
Goal: The library is planning several programming components across the district to support but not supplant the curriculum being used.
Background Information:
-AES: The library will work with staff to foster an inclusive and welcoming space to celebrate literacy, but also a resurgence of the library and the licenses it purchases to provide the best possible education of students.
-Maple Grove: With the addition of the Maple Grove charter school, the LMS will provide books and resources to dovetail with the exploratory learning curriculum used. This will emphasize and enhance the mission of the school.
-AMS-AHS: The ITLC will work with the CTE staff on their future vision of
maximizing opportunities for student
trades readiness
career ready
continued partnership with local businesses
becoming a destination district
Actions:
For all three schools, this will include a diversity of materials to represent the multitude of experiences for our students beyond our school community. This will be monitored through the ordering process.
