Dr. Laura Atkinson is a clinical assistant professor in the Mary Lou Fulton Teacher's College (MLFTC). Prior to joining the MLFTC faculty, she served as the coordinator of the Urban Professional Learning Schools Initiative (UPLSI) master’s program at ASU and assisted in the curriculum development of the program. Dr. Atkinson spent over a decade teaching general and special education, and served as the director of an $8.5 million grant at Mississippi State University (ACHIEVE Mississippi). Additionally, Dr. Atkinson coordinated an accelerated, immersion teacher certification program and supervised student teachers. In her current role in MLFTC, Dr. Atkinson teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in education.
Michele Amrein is a clinical assistant professor at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University and the current site coordinator for Washington Elementary District. This role requires class instruction of elementary education majors and evaluation of teacher candidate performance in the classroom. She trains student mentors monthly to support teacher candidates. She meets with district stakeholders comprised of principals and district office administration members several times throughout the school year to discuss progress and issues. She is currently working with a group to develop a grant involving mentor/induction support for new teachers.
