Best for: Classes where students recognize one another but may not know much about one another.
Place students in pairs or groups of three.
Provide several prompts and allow students to choose one they are comfortable answering.
Try prompts such as:
What is something you are looking forward to right now?
What is something you're good at that people here might not know?
What is something you could teach the rest of us?
What experience has shaped how you think about this course or topic?
What is something that has been taking up your attention lately?
After one person shares, ask the listener to ask one genuine follow-up question before sharing their own response.
Reflect:
What changes when we know something about the people we're learning alongside?
