Best for: Keeping classroom agreements, norms, or expectations active throughout the semester rather than creating them once and forgetting them.
Choose one existing classroom agreement, norm, or expectation to revisit.
Guide students through three short prompts:
Notice
Where have we seen this agreement in action?
Invite students to identify specific examples of what is working.
Check
Where might there be a gap between what we said matters and what we are experiencing?
Keep the focus on the collective classroom experience, rather than evaluating or identifying individual students.
Adjust
What is one thing we could do differently or more intentionally?
Identify one small action the class can try.
Return to the agreements periodically or at natural moments, such as:
after a challenging discussion
before or after a major collaborative experience
midway through the semester
when classroom dynamics change
when students identify a concern
Agreements do not have to remain fixed. If something no longer supports the community, invite students to revise, remove, or add an agreement.
Reflect:
Are our agreements describing the community we actually experience—or only the community we intended to create?
