Upper Team 7th-12th Grade
A lot has happened on the Upper Team over the last four weeks! The Upper Team was divided into two smaller teams. Both teams decided on team names - Minerva Warriors and Minerva Legion. Upper Team captains as well as individual team captains were selected. The teams were divided into three areas: Hardware, Software, and Marketing. Students have begun to learn about each area of the Upper Team and some have decided to focus on one or two of the areas.
In hardware, the teams are building their competition robots. Minerva Warriors have two different prototypes. One robot has been nicknamed "Big Kid" since it is wide and has a large elevator attachment and their other prototype is the test robot. Minerva Legion is building their robot nicknamed "Lil' Baby" as it is small and narrow. Both teams worked together to build the robot playing field that will be used in this year's challenge Freight Frenzy.
In software, Minerva Warriors are busy creating different codes for their robot and they are testing out computer vision using a webcam. Minerva Legion is learning Java using Codeacademy.
The marketing captain from Minerva Legion designed both logos for the two teams and helped create the team t-shirts. As well the teams collaborated to make an Upper Team presentation (shown below) explaining who is on the team, how the team is organized, showing the team logo, describing both teams robots, each robots strengths and weaknesses, and each team's software strategy. The presentation was used during the new building inauguration and will be used when the team meets with potential sponsors.
