Work Studies will assist students to recognise the links between education, training, work and lifestyle, and the economic and social factors that affect work opportunities. It will develop students’ skills in accessing work-related information, presenting themselves to potential employers, and functioning effectively in the workplace. It also allows for students to develop a range of skills and attitudes in actual workplace contexts.
The modular structure comprises a compulsory common core and optional course modules.
The Core – My Working Life
The core topic is mandatory for all students. The core topic focuses on assisting students to take responsibility for planning and implementing their career plan and revising it as required.
Modules
The course modules expand on the issues introduced in the core. The course modules supplied are:
1. In the Workplace
2. Preparing Job Applications
3. Workplace Communication
4. Teamwork and Enterprise Skills
5. Managing Work and Life Commitments
6. Personal Finance
7. * Workplace Issues (the prerequisite module is “In the Workplace”
8. * Self-Employment (the prerequisite module is “Managing Work and Life Commitments”)
9. * Team Enterprise Project (the prerequisite module is “Teamwork and Enterprise Skills”)
10. Experiencing Work (one or two of these modules may be undertaken provided that they do not exceed 50 percent of course time)
11. School-Developed Module (one or two of these modules may be undertaken, provided that they do not exceed 25 percent of course time).
OTHER
Content endorsed courses can be counted towards the units required for either the Year 11 Record of Achievement or the HSC Record of Achievement, depending on the year(s) in which they are studied. Content Endorsed Courses do not count in the calculation of the ATAR.

Who should do this course?
Work Studies is designed for students who do not wish to obtain an ATAR and who want to develop their workplace skills. It complements any other work-based course ie SBA, SBT and TVET Courses.
