Aboriginal Studies explore the rich history, culture, and contemporary experiences of Australia's First Nations people. It focuses on Aboriginal Peoples' deep relationship to Land, examines the impacts of colonialism and racism, and dives into key legal and policy issues since the 1960s. Students work directly with Aboriginal communities, to develop culturally appropriate research methods and apply them to a major research project. It is an invaluable course for building vital research skills and a deeper understanding of Australian history.
Year 11
The Year 11 course focuses on Aboriginal Peoples' relationship to the Land, Aboriginal heritage and identity, and an historical examination of colonialism, racism and prejudice from pre-contact times to the 1960s. The course also includes the development of skills in culturally appropriate research and inquiry methods. It involves case studies.
The HSC course provides for in-depth study of legislation, policy, judicial processes and current events from the 1960s. During the course, students undertake consultation with Aboriginal communities and study the course through the experiences of national and international Indigenous communities. Students apply research and inquiry methods through the completion of a major project.

Who should do this course?
Most students would be suitable. It is not requirement that you be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Students need to be able to communicate in appropriate written and oral forms.
