The aim of the International Studies course is for students to know, understand and appreciate the significance of culture: respect the culturally diverse world in which they live; value cultures from different perspectives; and develop skills to engage harmoniously in the interconnected world.
Record of School Achievement
International Studies is a 100 or 200 hour school developed elective. This course will not appear on the RoSA it will be reported on the School semester one and semester two reports using the Common Grade Scale
International Studies provides students with an opportunity to explore and recognise their own cultures, and appreciate the richness of multicultural Australia and the world. As Australia is part of the Asia Pacific region, the course has an emphasis on, but is not limited to, this region.
Students will gain knowledge of different cultural practices, values, beliefs and heritages to form a broader world-view. They gain the skills to recognise fact, detect bias and challenge stereotypes by exploring cultural difference and interconnectedness. This enables them to understand and value inclusion, and to respect the rights of others.
Students will examine topics from the following options:

· Culture and the media Culture on the move
· Culture and travel Culture and the performing arts
· Culture in Art and Architecture Culture in Film and Literature
· Culture and sport Culture and family life
· Culture and food Culture, science, technology and change
Students will develop skills to apply critical literacy in recognising and challenging stereotypes and develop effective tools for successful intercultural communication and understanding.
Students will develop the values of respect for the diversity of cultures, individual and social responsibility, cooperation between and among cultures and groups, empathetic understanding and equality and social justice.
