Agriculture and farming plays a vital role in our society. It is essential students know where their food and fibre comes from. Agricultural education helps young people to grow into collaborative, responsible, energetic, and self-sufficient adults.
Agriculture is a major employment and infrastructure industry for Tamworth and its surrounding communities and this course is a hands-on ideal way to experience this first hand in a unique, small scale enterprise within our school farm.
Record of School Achievement
Agriculture Now is a 100 or 200 hour school developed elective. This course will not appear on the RoSA, it will be reported on the school Semester 1 and Semester 2 reports using the Common Grade Scale.
Students will learn about:
Plant production - Winter / Summer Cropping and Pastures
Animal Production - Beef cattle, Sheep/Wool, Poultry/Eggs
Marketing and paddock to plate flows in Agriculture
Technology - Research and development innovations
Indigenous farming
Vegetable production - Soil, hydroponics and alternatives
Alternative Industries
Students will spend the majority of their course time participating in practical farming experiences including field work, small plot activities, greenhouse work, farm maintenance, learning to prepare and handle livestock, judging skill development for competitions, as well as visiting agricultural related enterprises. The skills of collaboration, investigation, using innovative technology and communicating will be enhanced throughout the course.
