I apply the arts to my daily life in many ways. I am a music producer and songwriter which means I’m constantly collaborating with other musicians and artists everyday. Many people don’t know that most of their favorite songs are written and produced by a group of people, not just the singer who performs it on stage. It’s a very beautiful thing to see many types of artist with vast ranges of musical skills come together and make a song for people to enjoy. My main focus at Miller South was Visual Arts but in 6th grade I decided to learn percusion in the band program. For me it was this blend of different mediums that really shaped who I am, and my outlook on the arts as a whole. Years after leaving Miller South my mom asked me why I don’t paint anymore. I told her “It’s okay mom.. I paint with sounds now….” I Truly look at music this way and everything I learned at Miller South has had a massive role in how I create on a daily basis. I need to give a big shout out to my visual arts teacher “Mrs. Yingling” as she taught me so much in both art and life….and put up with me being somewhat of a class clown :) I will forever be grateful for my time at Miller South.
Miller South has helped my in my adulthood in more ways than I can count. The more time that goes on the more I realize how much it has shaped who I am. One thing I’m incredibly grateful for was being surrounded by so many other artists at a young age. Seeing all my peers being creative and that being supported by the teachers was an incredible experience. Art was something that was valued and nurtured. If it wasn’t for this, I can almost guarantee I wouldn’t have found success in the music business. On top of that, I'm grateful for seeing so much diversity both artistically and personally. I made so many friends from all walks of life and that taught me how to collaborate with all kinds of amazing people.
