How to gather CREDIBLE information/resources:
Use our Databases to gather research and credible evidence (Clever > IHS Library row - Databases) and in 2nd row search 1. Global Issues (<pswd: goldfinch>) or 2. GIC High School,
and 3. Social Issues Researcher (w714ringle, pswd: welcome)
Like an article? Be sure to click CITE > Noodletools > Import (that's how you have to get Databases into your Noodletools)
Use High Quality Accurate/Reliable Websites, and use google and force it to find .edu sources - type in Topic site:edu Example: AI transforming jobs site:edu
Look for colleges and university research and experts!
(Avoid blogs, unreliable for-profit colleges you've never heard of, and lower level student work)
Many of you used the Baker recommended websites:
-the OEC website. Here's a sample correct citation. For the country page, Use your Country name for Article title. Website = OEC. Publisher = Observatory of Economic Complexity. And there is no Date of Publication.
"Albania." OEC, Observatory of Economic Complexity, oec.world/en/profile/country/alb. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
-the CIA World Factbook website. Here's a sample correct citation. For the country page, Use your Country name for Article title. No authors given.
"Albania." The World Factbook, Central Intelligence Agency, 3 Mar. 2025, www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/albania/. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
-the Gapminder website. Here's a sample correct citation. For the country page, use your Country name for Article title if you clicked your country name.
"Albania." Gapminder. Gapminder Foundation, https://www.gapminder.org/tools/. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
Otherwise, use the article title you see at the top of the page. For example, an article on gapminder would look like this:
"World Health Chart" Gapminder. Gapminder Foundation. https://www.gapminder.org/fw/world-health-chart/. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
P.S. Ms. Baker will also allow (Gapminder) as the in text citation for this source.
4. Using Noodletools (in Clever) to Capture Sources, and create correct In-Text Citations
When you find a good source, do NOT lose the link, capture it! Database source? You must Click CITE button and Import it into Noodletools!
For free websites you find (site:edu ones) and other RELIABLE WEBSITES, you will Add them to Noodletools (filling in 6 items)
Use this helpful page to fill in the fields for WEBSITE sources.
To cite a JOURNAL on a Website, select Website/Journal in noodletools to add source, then add the DOI and click blue button. It will do about 90% of the fields correctly. Then add/adjust, and get librarian help. Sample Journal on Website.
To do In text citations, click this. It is generally the first word in your Noodletools!
Sample Works Cited from Noodletools:
"AI-based Automation of Jobs." The Guardian, 27 Jan. 2025. Gale in Context: Global Issues, link.gale.com/apps/doc/A825041813. Accessed 4 Mar. 2025.
"AI Is 'The Biggest Opportunity of Our Lifetime', Says Tech Veteran." Sydney Morning Herald, 3 Jan. 2025, p. 24. SIRS Issues Researcher, sirsissuesresearcher/document/3161.
"Albania." The World Factbook, Central Intelligence Agency, 3 Mar. 2025, www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/albania/. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
Par, Rich and Mei Lin. "AI 'Apocalypse' Could Take Away Almost 8m Jobs in UK, Says Report." The Guardian (Online), 27 Mar. 2024. SIRS Issues Researcher, explore.proquest.com/sirsissuesresearcher/document/3108402727?accountid=2422.
Taylor, Johnny C. "AI Doesn't Have to Be Big Worry for Workers." USA Today, 12 Feb. 2025. Gale: Global Issues, link.gale.com/apps/doc/A8. Accessed 4 Mar. 2025.
So this student would use these internal citations (at end of sentences where info came from this source)
("AI-based")
("AI")
("Albania")
(Par and Lin)
(Taylor)
But IF you have more than 1 item on Noodletools that starts with exactly the same word, see a librarian, and/or use this pattern below:
For In-text citations, use just the 1st word in a correct Noodletools citation Unless you have more than 1 that have the exact same start - for the student with the 3 that start with "Albania" here are the in-text citations:
Noodletools shows:
"Albania." OEC, Observatory of Economic Complexity, oec.world/en/profile/country/alb. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
"Albania." The World Factbook, Central Intelligence Agency, 3 Mar. 2025, www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/albania/. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
"Albania." Gapminder. Gapminder Foundation, https://www.gapminder.org/tools/. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
"World Health Chart" Gapminder. Gapminder Foundation. https://www.gapminder.org/fw/world-health-chart/. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
** so the in-text citations will be:
("Albania," OEC). and ("Albania," The World). and ("Albania," Gapminder).
and ("World") since you only use the 1st word if that's enough to tell which source it is in your Noodletools!
More In-Text citation help linked here.
If you have 3 or more authors, and see et al:
Salam, Rehana A., et al. "Adolescent Health Interventions" Journal of Adolescent Health, vol. 59, no. 4, Oct. 2016, pp. S88-S92. National Library of Medicine, https://doi.org/10. Accessed 7 Mar. 2025.
In text citation will be (Salam et al).
