Database:

Databases hold millions of articles, audio files, and more that would normally be behind a pay-wall. They are vetted for accuracy and reliability as well. You can find several different articles for your research inside the following database:

Click > Gale In Context US History database (it contains at least a few articles about most US musicians.) Check out this example NPR interview transcript about Tia Fuller  

Then do: an Advanced google search for .edu 

(When you do an advanced google search, you can limit it to returning .edu results, which are mainly college/university pages.)

Quick way: Type in your person of interest and site:edu

For example, when you search for Alex Coltrane site:edu here's an example of a page of wonderful research results from colleges and universities.

More options: when you want to limit or place key terms in a google search, use the gear icon in the upper right, click Advanced Search. Then fill in what you want it to find and what to exclude (example below when you want just Alice Coltrane and music results and not and John Coltrane articles), and limit it to domain edu
