Practice

The SHMS Speech Team will meet after school, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 3:15-4:45pm.  Participants must attend one practice per week.  

At Speech Team Practice, students will have the opportunity to work on specific skills, rehearse their piece with peers and have a one-on-one coaching session with one of the coaches (15 minutes every week). Skills we will focus on include: eye contact, articulation, volume, poise, facial expression, characterization, gestures and rate of speaking.  Click here to see the scoring rubric used at meets. 

Practices begins December 9th.

Practice Schedule

Week 1: Choose a Category and piece. 

Week 2: Cut your piece to fit within the time limit, write an introduction. 

Week 3 and beyond: Practice your piece individually, perform it for a coach.
