Requirements

  • 80% is original writing
  • Introduction sets the theme, mood, scene
  • Distinction between characters (characters should be believable)
  • May use a script
  • Mood may be serious, humorous, or both
  • A clear message/theme
  • Student may use pantomime, storytelling, or any variety of performance styles
  • Student may walk around the room
  • Presentation
    • Demonstrates good writing skills
    • May be short story (any genre)
    • Poetry (may be a collection)
    • Drama

  • Telling a story from your life
  • Retelling a fairy tale or famous story
  • Imagining a humorous or dramatic situation
  • Performing original poetry
  • Should aim for about 600-1000 words


Practice Methods

  • Watch yourself in the mirror
  • Record yourself
  • Read it backwards
  • Go people watching and look for people who talk/move like your character
  • Insert your introduction into Google Translator and play it. How does it sound?
