Public Speaking Category: Informative (5-8 minutes)
- This speech should be written by you and should inform the reader about a meaningful, worthwhile topic.
- This speech should not be persuasive
- Needs an attention-getting introduction
- Clear thesis statement and preview
- Clear organization of the speech (usually preview of main points clarifies the organization)
- Credibility (at least 2 credible sources are expected and should be cited during the presentation; speaker should introduce source prior to quoting/paraphrasing). Wikipedia is not a credible source.
- Speaking should be sincere, pleasant and convincing
- Steps can be taken at appropriate transitional points
- Gestures enhance
- Face should show involvement, concern, enthusiasm
- Two-dimensional posters/charts MAY be used to illustrate information
- Other props or materials may NOT be used
- Visual aides are NOT required, but may aid the delivery
