STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The involvement of parents and community members is an essential component of nurturing students. Every effort to invite and consider parent and community input must be made to ensure the success of our students. A team of parents, teachers, and administrators developed the following district parent/community involvement plan.
Parent Involvement Policy
A copy of this policy will be provided for parents each year in the student handbook.
Annual Information Meeting
The annual public meeting will be held in conjunction with Curriculum Night in September. There will be an informational session for all parents and break-out sessions with classroom teachers. There will be a break-out session for all ESL parents with a translator present.
Flexible Meeting Times
Weddington Hills will host a variety of meetings at flexible times. Examples of meetings are: Open House, Curriculum Night, Title I Parent Night, PTO Meetings, Book Fair, Family NIght, Global Inquiry Night, IB Open House, Magnet Fair, 5K, Volunteer Breakfast, Grade level events, Award Assemblies, Awards Day, 5th Grade Graduation, IEP, PEP and LEP Meetings, and Dining Out Nights.
Parent Participation in Planning
Parents are elected to serve on the School Improvement Team. Effort will be made to include parents who represent the diverse population of our school. Parents will attend meetings and provide input for the development of the plan. Parents are also elected to serve on the PTO Board.
Parent Information
Parents will be provided with information about programs and the curriculum through the use of Curriculum Night, School Improvement Plan, Title I Parent Night, School Web Site, Individual Conferences, Connect Ed and Newsletters, and Twitter. Parents will be encouraged to attend and participate in Curriculum Night and all other parent meetings and opportunities. In addition, parents will be asked to attend nine week conferences and to schedule other conferences as needed. Translators will be provided when needed. PTO meetings will also be held in designated months to allow parents to provide input and suggestions. Parent representatives will serve on the School Improvement Team and meeting dates will be publicized in the plan for parents who wish to attend. Weddington Hills will also send a parent representative to serve on the Parent Council Committee.
The Title I School-Parent Compact will be given to all parents at the beginning of the school year. A copy of the parent compact will be sent home for those parents who do not attend Open House. The Compact will be explained during Open House and referenced throughout the year. The compact is also available on our school website.
Building Parent Involvement Capacity
Weddington Hills will provide parents information on state standards and assessments at Curriculum Night. In addition, information will be shared through the school website, county website, Twitter, and newsletters. We will also provide individual assistance through teacher conferences with parents. Children who continue to have difficulty will be referred to IPST and may also work with the school counselors and social worker.
Weddington Hills will provide parents with training on how they can help their children during Back to School Bash / Curriculum Night. In addition, training and information will be provided through the use of individual conferences, teacher and school newsletters, PTO meetings, parent trainings, and the school web page. Weddington Hills will seek information from parents through the use of Parent Surveys and Parent Representatives who serve on the School Improvement Team. Weddington Hills has a translator to facilitate communication with our Hispanic population.
Weddington Hills will work cooperatively with More at Four Programs at other Cabarrus County Schools as they prepare to send transition students into our Kindergarten and EC Resources Classes.Weddington Hills will utilize a translator to facilitate the involvement of parents. We will accommodate parents with disabilities by utilizing available county resources. We will provide a translator when needed. . . Weddington Hills embraces the philosophy of providing an invitational school environment and an open door policy. Weddington Hills will utilize the School Improvement Team and the PTO Board to encourage businesses to partner with our school. We will also work with parents whose businesses allow and encourage participation in the school. Input from parents regarding training will be solicited through the use of Parent Surveys and School Improvement Team.

Right to Review Teacher Qualifications
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As a parent of a student at Weddington Hills, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child's classroom teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers.
Whether the NC Department of Public Instruction has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
Whether the NC Department of Public Instruction has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
The teacher's college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
Whether any teachers' aides or similar paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.
