Tips for Freshmen
Attend school every day unless you are sick. Missing school makes it hard to keep up in your classes.
Submit assignments on time and study for tests. Every grade counts.
English and math are your two highest priority classes. You will need to pass English and math and earn 6 credits to be a sophomore.
Aim for a GPA above 3.0 (B-average) to allow for state and other scholarship opportunities.
Write out 1-3 goals for this year. A good idea would be to set one goal for each area: personal, academic, and college or career.
Get involved! Choose a school club, sport, or other extracurricular activity. Not only will an activity help you meet other students, but it will also give you opportunities to try something new or take on a leadership role.
College Planning Guide
The College Planning Guide provides direction for how to prepare for and apply to college. Of course, it is not meant to replace the individual advisement you will receive from your school counselor, but it will answer many of your important questions.
Course Progressions
This document provides a visual map for each of the core subject areas, showing the sequence of courses you will take from your freshman to senior year. Some courses are required of every student, while others depend on your individual path.
Testing Progression
What standardized tests can you expect each year of high school? This document will help you plan ahead. For detailed explanations of each test, go to our Testing webpage.
EOC Testing
Before you graduate from high school, you will take state-standardized end-of-course (EOC) exams to demonstrate your knowledge in each of the four core subject areas: English 2, Algebra 1, Biology, and U.S. History.
