Dual credit courses are courses for which the student has been granted permission by the high school to earn both Carnegie units and college credit. Anderson School District 5 partners with Anderson University and Tri-County Technical College to offer a variety of dual credit courses.
Since colleges report letter grades and not numerical grades, a system has been agreed upon by high schools and colleges to determine the numerical grade that will be reflected on the high school transcript and calculated in the GPA. The highest numerical grade possible in a dual credit course is a 95%.
Dual Credit Course Grading Scale
A = 95; B = 85; C = 75; D = 65; F = 50
One quality point is added to the CP weighting for dual credit courses.
Dual credit courses typically meet twice weekly and are taught by professors at the college campus.
More individual responsibility is required to study outside of class time. Successful students check their email and phone messages regularly for communication from the college. They reach out to their professors with questions. They manage their time wisely.
The Anderson 5 School District offers a scholarship for dual-enrollment students that is applied toward tuition. Students and parents are responsible for any remaining tuition and miscellaneous fees beyond this amount.
Dual Enrollment Tuition Comparison of Anderson University and Tri-County
Students wishing to take college-level coursework after school hours or during the summer may do so on their own. However, if they are seeking dual credit for a self-selected college course, they must have prior written approval from the high school counselor. Without prior written approval, dual credit will not be granted and the course will not be reflected on the high school transcript.
