Career Planning
Career Planning Tips
Talk with your parent/guardian and other trusted adults. Ask questions about their work experience and training.
Learn about yourself. Notice your preferences, talents, and personality type. Keep these traits in mind when considering your career options. Look for careers that would be a good fit for your strengths and learning/work style. (For example, if you enjoy being active, a job that requires a full day of sitting in an office cubicle might not be your best choice long-term.)
Research a few potential career categories. Utilize online career exploration tools.
Explore your interests further through job shadowing or internships.
Take high school electives related to your area of interest. If you are not sure what to choose, talk with your school counselor.
Commit to doing your best in all of your classes. Even classes that you dislike will help you develop important communication and reasoning skills that you will use for the rest of your life.
Partipate in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or take a part-time job. You will gain valuable life skills. These activities will also help you build your resume for college applications and future employment.
