A General Education (GE) course is one that a student can choose from the list of available GE courses, excluding those already prescribed by the program.
An elective is a non-GE course that a student may choose from any area or discipline, regardless of course number, to enhance their technical competence, knowledge, and skills. This course should contribute to their program of study or track.
If your desired elective is not included in the recommended list of free electives below, you must seek approval from your Program Adviser. Make a copy of the FE Approval Form, fill it out accordingly, and grant editing access to your Program Adviser and Program Coordinator (indesign.upd@up.edu.ph) on your Google Docs file so they can add their remarks.
For IndD students, an elective may be approved only if:
It is officially offered as an elective by the offering unit or department, and
It is aligned with industrial design practice by enriching the student’s understanding of disciplines related to design.
Important Notes:
Electives offered by the College of Fine Arts are automatically approved by the Program Adviser (see CFA elective offerings below).
Language courses are generally not approved unless they are clearly connected to or support your design research or thesis.
For shiftees from other colleges, only 2 major courses may be credited as free electives.
Students are required to take either PE 1 or PE 2 as their PE courses. PE 3 may only be taken by students who have completed PE 2 in the same activity.
