The UPCFA Industrial Design program effects its vision through a robust academic program, research-driven projects, and collaborative partnerships to address problems in the realm of the social, cultural, environmental, and economic domains. The UPCFA-IndD strives to combine the strength of its faculty, students, its technical and infrastructure support, in cooperation with industry, institutional bodies and its various publics to produce new knowledge, forge skills, and hone attitudes in aspiring to provide authentic improvements to the lives of the people through design.
The UPCFA Industrial Design program of the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines, envisions a design education that is responsive to current needs and demands. It seeks to enable students to be change agents by identifying urgent problems, critically analyzing conditions, and developing effective solutions that are humanitarian, economically viable, and sensitive to various cultural persuasions.
An Industrial Design graduate can pursue various creative positions with companies, design firms, public offices, start-ups, and non-profit organizations. Some practice design consultancy, some establish businesses, while others pursue careers in design research and education.
Equipped with the foundational conceptual, technical, and aesthetic competencies, an Industrial Design graduate from the Associate in Arts program can work as a design assistant, visualizer, fabricator, and design coordinator, to name a few. Graduates from the AA (IndD) program can also apply to the BFA (IndD) program to continue their design education.
Graduates from the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Industrial Design) program have, on the other hand, historically cultivated design careers in the following fields:
Product Design, Branding and Marketing, Package Design,
Graphic Design, Exhibition and Retail Design, Production Design,
Fabrication and Manufacturing, Design and Project Management,
Entrepreneurship, Design Research, Design Education, and Advocacy Work.
The UP College of Fine Arts offers two Industrial Design (IndD) programs:
a two-year Associate in Arts (AA) and a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree,
each with distinct learning outcomes.
AA graduates build a strong foundation in design history, methodologies, and ethics, fostering critical thinking and creativity, and may pursue the BFA program.
BFA students advance their skills in design tools, management, and critical perspectives, creating innovative, culturally aware, and ethically sound solutions while preparing for professional practice and industry engagement.
