Lesson
Finalize Piece
After writing four journal entries and revising them throughout the week, students will choose one to finalize and submit today. It must be at least one page long, be in MLA format, and include the following: Em dashes, parentheses, and transitional phrases at least once. We will complete this on laptops.
Silent Reading or Intervention Time
Students who are finished typing their essay and submitting it will read silently. Students who still need more than the allotted time to write their essay will use this time to write their essay, revise the use of em dashes, parentheses, and transitional phrases by accessing the mini-lessons located in the QR Codes.
The QR Codes take students to a YouTube video on one of the grammar principles students learned in class. There is a QR Code that takes students to em dashes, one on parentheses, and one on transitional phrases, etc. There are also QR Codes that link to a YouTube video for the rest of the grammar principles students will learn about in this unit.
Mini-Conference
Students will check off their I can Statement Sheets for week one in a mini-conference with me. I may refer students at this time to the mini-lessons on em dashes, parentheses, and transitional phrases located in the QR Codes.
Share Final Piece with Class
Students will share their piece with the class by reading it aloud to them.
