Lesson
Discussion
We will discuss the following as a class: When trying to solve a problem, why does it matter to hear how it’s been tackled in the past? Why should we care about what people are currently saying about it?
Mentor Text
I will show students the final product of my piece, which should include a graphic from my Google Form data and a reflection piece on it. Show “Real” News page 102-103 in Write Like This by Kelly Gallagher as mentor text again so students see how to incorporate graphics and their reflection.
Mini-Lesson on using Databases
We will meet in the media center and receive an introduction to Databases by the media center specialist.
Gathering Sources
Students will gather a list of sources that address the problem they’ve chosen to write about. They will do this by using a graphic organizer to help them gather sources that discuss how their problem has been addressed in the past. Students must collect at least 5 sources.
Annotated Bibliography
Students will see an example of an annotated bibliography and create their own using the 5 sources they found online.
Begin Writing Piece
Students will begin writing their piece using a template.
