Shelter Belt

Our project demonstrates the importance of shelterbelts in agriculture. They serve the purpose of creating a layer of protection for crops against harsh weather and wind. They also protect bare fields from wind erosion. They are created by the linear planting of trees and shrubs. Shelterbelts often include materials such as small trees, large trees, pine trees, shrubs, soil, and rocks. There are multiple strategies that help to create an effective shelterbelt. One of these strategies is avoiding gaps in the shelterbelt and planting the different plant species densely. The placement of the shelterbelt also plays a large role in the effectiveness. If it is placed so the wind is against it, it will be more effective. It has been proven that the five-row shelterbelt is the most effective of all types. This includes one row of shrubs, two rows of tall trees, and two rows of pine trees.
