Coral Reef Restoration

Coral reefs play a very crucial role in many aquatic environments. They provide a barrier for the coastal lands from storms and erosion. These reefs are in danger and need our help. Around 30 to 50 percent of coral reefs across the world have been lost. This simply has to do with the increase in CO2 levels, pollution, coastal development, and local threats which include overfishing. There are multiple different ways these coral reefs are being saved. A few of them include organizations and conservation programs that build and plant nurseries to grow coral back into the reefs. Also, these organizations are working hard to make sure habitats are sustainable for natural growth and have the ability to be resilient to threats such as climate change. Overall, this project displays the importance of coral reefs and what steps are being taken to protect these fragile ecosystems.
