Back To School Night

Thank you for taking the time to attend Back-to-School Night. If you were not able to make it, here are some of the key topics that were covered.

One of my main goals is to have transparency with what happens in the classroom so guardians, students, and the teacher can all work together for a successful year.

As you know is the class website. The daily schedule section is my planner. Dates in the future are what I expect to accomplish. Each day I update the schedule to reflect what was actually accomplished so you can be aware of what we are doing in class each day.

Homework should be stress-free and primarily consist of independent reading. Some adaptive math practice can be helpful as well and we will continue to introduce those programs as the year progresses. Students are given time to complete the long-term projects in class, but some parts of the project may need to be completed at home depending on the situation.

The projects section has information about what should be included in the projects, due dates, and example projects.

Students will be keeping track of their work using the Student Portfolio. Students will be updating this when we complete assessments.

Guardians can sign up for email alerts from Renaissance Place by clicking on the Home Connect Link and using the student username and password. Ask your student for their username and password, or contact me and I will provide that information.

All our assignments are done on the Chromebook and can be accessed from home. It is very important that students bring Chromebooks charged every day.

We are expected to go to Science Camp this year. More information can be found in the science camp section of the website. We are looking for Chaperones that are willing to spend the full five-day week with us in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Please let me know if you are interested.

Please stay in contact with ClassDojo or email. Have a great weekend!

Thank you,

Mr. Doherty
