About Me

Meet your Teacher

Mr. Doherty

My name is Blake Doherty. I grew up north of San Francisco in Santa Rosa. After graduating high school, I attended Santa Rosa Junior College for three years. Then I transferred to the University of California, Santa Cruz. After graduating with a degree in sociology and a minor in education I started substitute teaching in the Santa Cruz area. I then enrolled in the Cal State Teach program offered through California State University Monterey Bay. I was hired by the Alisal Union School District in 2007 and was placed at Creekside Elementary. I worked as a kindergarten teacher for my first year at Creekside and as a sixth-grade teacher for my second year. The following year, I was transferred to Oscar Loya Elementary due to seniority. I started teaching fifth grade at Loya and loved it. After three years, I had an opportunity to come back to Creekside to teach fifth grade and I took it. I have been teaching fifth grade at Creekside since 2012. I continued my education and earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership through California Coast University in January 2018.

Personally, I live in Santa Cruz with my wife Rachel, our daughter Wren (7), and four goldfish all named Lilly. I love to be active and enjoy a variety of sports. Throughout my younger years, I played baseball, ice hockey, football, basketball, rugby, wrestling, swimming, and water polo. I continue to participate in activities like surfing, golfing, and snowboarding. I read every day for at least forty-five minutes just like I expect my students to do. I love traveling to new places and experiencing new cultures and environments.

The best way to contact me is to message me on our Class Dojo or email me blake.doherty@alisal.org.

Thank you,

Mr. Doherty
