About Language P1 exam

English Language Paper 1 is a 1 hour 45 minute exam paper.

This exam paper tests your understanding of creative writing techniques that an author uses to create effects in writing. In fact, it is very similar to the skills that you will be demonstrating on the literature examination papers. 

You will be given an unseen extract from a novel or short story (it will be just over a side of A4) and you will be expected to closely analyse specific effects, drawing out key words and ideas from a passage, considering the effects on the reader.

In the exam: 

Spend 15 minutes reading the source. I would recommend that you read it at least twice.
