This nest has 6 eggs. It is currently being incubated by the female and is due to hatch on June 10th, which is the most common hatch date for all the swallow boxes this year!
Today was this box's hatch day! So far 3 out of five eggs have hatched.
Another of the eggs has hatched, meaning there are now 4 chicks and 2 eggs. You can see that the one smaller chick on the left is the later one to hatch. The other two eggs are likely to not ever hatch, and may be removed by the parents.
Today the chicks are 11 days old, which means that they get banded and get measured. We usually weigh them and measure how long their wings and feathers are. In about a week the chicks will all leave the nest.
Unfortunately this box had a predator get in, and the chicks did not survive. Although only three of the bands from the chicks was found, this nest will be considered unsuccessful.
