Nest 132 is well built (unlike our presumably new parents trying their best in box 174). With 7 eggs, 132 is in incubation. The predicted hatch date is June 9th.
We caught mom on the nest today (a banded female)!
Today this nest hatched! The little nestlings are pink and helpless, so the parents are hard at work feeding them.
Today was banding day for the parents! We caught them both in the box and took data measurements from them. This is a picture of the male from this box.
Today we banded the chicks! While we band, we collect and record measurements. Our final job for this box is to fledge check. In a fledge check, we watch the box to see if the chicks have left the nest. We band when the chicks reach 11 days old and start fledge checks at 16 days old. If at least one chick fledges we count the box as successful for the year! Finally, we clean out the old nest to make way for a new one in the spring.
