During the month of February, those who visited the library could celebrate kindness, friendship, and inclusion.

What did the library offer?

Carefully selected picture and chapter books about friendship. Students were invited to read and reflect on what a true friendship is and how to be a good friend.
Friendship bookmarks to grab and color!
Visits at the Makerspace artsy station where students created friendly cards and wrote special dedications to their friends.
Writing competition: Students wrote about friendship. The winning pieces are presented below.
Collecting bucket filler slips as caught being kind and friendly in the library. (Grade 1-2 students)
Read-alouds about friendship presented by the Middle School students to their younger friends. It was a great opportunity to learn and reflect how to be a better and a kinder friend.

Reflections on Friendship

Friendship is important to many people. It is also fun to make friends!

When I was younger, my teacher taught me about it. There are many types of friendships, for example, strong, weak, new, or old ones. A true friendship is known as a "mutual unconditional love" which means a super strong friendship with someone. It is really nice to have it because I get to go out with them, call them, and play with them. A fake friendship is when someone is ignoring you, avoiding you, leaving you, and/or talking badly about you behind your back.

It's really sad losing a friend. People change then for sure.

Some people pretend to care about you, but don't actually have your best interests at heart. When I was in the 2nd grade I had a very close friend. She was kind, funny, and smart until a new girl joined the school . My old friend started avoiding me, and I still remember the day she left me. My mom understood me and reassured me that I will have a new friend soon. I guess it wasn't a real friendship at the time.

Having a strong friendship can lead to traveling together, being roommates, and much much more. I have my best friend now, and you should too.
