Raising awareness and understanding the importance of Black history in the context of morays and community is a crucial component to multiculturalism. Students that have more opportunities to learn about the history of their friends and teachers will learn more about themselves as well.
AIS Primary, Middle, and High School Homeroom Teachers were dedicating 5-10 minutes daily in the morning to present the Black History Month morning activity. Each day there was a different one. (Trivia - learn about chosen important Black figures in various fields; Read Aloud - listen and reflect about the book read by our awesome and talented AIS educators; Discussion - reflect and answer the question of the day; Quote - reflect, get inspired; Dance - learn the history of some of the Black dances & some great hip hop moves).
Students were invited to participate in the Black History Month door contest!
3 themes offered:
1. Black authors/Black book characters
2. Civil Right Leaders
