Safety Training
Safety Orientation
Creating and maintaining a safe work environment is of the utmost importance at ADMO. Safety training begins on the first day of initial employment or job transfer. A copy of this manual is made accessible to all employees and may be requested at any time for review. Upon hire, all employees are given a copy of ADMO company policy and safety rules. Supervisors are trained and equipped to answer any questions regarding safety policies and are tasked with ensuring the proper training of their department personnel.
Human Resources Responsibility
Initial safety training, emergency procedures, and OSHA required announcements and information will be relayed to the employee by Human Resources during the hiring process. Safety training records and certificates will be maintained in each employee’s personal training file. Human Resources is responsible for the scheduling of periodic and required employee training for all employees of ADMO.
Direct Supervisor Responsibility
Direct supervisors have the most frequent and direct contact with their department personnel. Each supervisor is responsible for constantly monitoring the work habits and environmental conditions in their departments. When safety policies are violated, it is the responsibility of the supervisor to warn or otherwise discipline the employee and re-iterate and re-train regarding the safety policy.
Job-specific training will be completed by the employee’s direct supervisor or qualified representative. It is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure the employee receives adequate and specific training.
Supervisors are responsible to ensure proper training for employees operating new or seldom-used equipment.
Supervisors are required to submit documentation to Human Resources for all training employees received so that it may be maintained in their personal training file.
Management Responsibility
It is the responsibility of management to review recommendations and corrective actions presented through employee suggestions or as the result of safety committee meetings. Management will support the improvement of safety standards and encourage preventative action in order to create a safer work environment.
Employee Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the employee to follow company safety policies, procedures and work practices. It is also the responsibility of the employee to report all accidents, injuries, near misses and unsafe work conditions to their direct supervisor.
Safety Rules
Overview
Creating and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment is of the utmost importance at ADMO. All employees are expected to understand and follow the safety policies, rules, practices and procedures at all times.
Many workplace accidents are the result of carelessness or lack of knowledge regarding the use of tools or machinery. It is imperative that all employees receive proper training regarding their assigned task. It is also important that employees work together with management to observe, understand, report and eliminate direct and root causes of workplace accidents. Proper understanding and respect of the tools and machines required to complete a task will create a safe work environment.
ADMO, Inc. is an injection molding manufacturer and we employ the use of many different types of equipment including, molding presses, drill presses, hot stamping machines, air punch presses, air impact tools, cutters, knives, air hoses, forklift trucks, handtrucks, and more. Before operating any of these tools, each employee must be trained in the proper procedures and practices.
Basic Safety
q Do not wear loose fitting clothing or jewelry
q Tie back long hair
q Always wear safety glasses
q Wear safety gloves when appropriate
q Use safety tape when appropriate
q Use ear protection
q Report any unsafe conditions to the direct supervisor immediately
Material Safety
As plastic injection molders, different types of plastic and other materials are in use every day. Material Safety Data Sheets are maintained for each of these materials and may be found in the station located directly outside of the plant supervisors’ office.
Material Safety Data Sheets are to be accessed should there be a spill, burn or other incident involving materials. They are accessible to employees at all time and always available for review.
Chemical Safety
q Work with adequate ventilate
q Avoid contact with skin
q Avoid inhaling fumes
q Always wash hands after handling chemicals and before eating and drinking
q Always wear safety glasses
Blood Born Pathogen Safety and Clean Up
Should an injury result in exposure to someone else’s blood or bodily fluid, it is important to take proper precautions. Pathogens may be transmitted through these fluids and every effort should be made to avoid contact.
q Always wear gloves when administering first aid to another employee
q Blood Safety buckets are provided with proper cleaning aids should a spill cleanup be necessary
q Wear eye safety to protect eyes from any accidental splashing of fluids
q Dispose of any materials immediately that have been contaminated by blood or other bodily fluids
Injection Molding Press Safety
Our presses are fast, powerful, hot and run by electricity. Although injection molding machines are designed to run safely, you should always treat them with respect. Employees should always give their full concentration to their task when working with one of these machines. Employees should daily inspect machines before they begin their shift. If a machine is not working properly or seems unsafe, it should be immediately reported to the direct supervisor. An employee should never continue to work with a machine that is unsafe or not working properly.
q Always inspect the area where you will be working. Clean up any plastic, water, oil or anything that could cause you to slip and/or fall
q Never reach past any safety guards or circumvent any safety procedure put in place
q Never put your hands or arms near moving parts on the machine
q If the machine malfunctions or fails to make a part, contact your supervisor immediately
q Never try to remove any plastic, parts or runners that may be stuck in the mold. Serious injury or mold damage may occur if handled improperly. Contact the supervisor immediately if there is a problem with a part or tool
q Know the location of the emergency stop button. Use this button if an emergency stop is required to prevent an accident, injury or damage to the parts or machine. Contact the supervisor immediately.
q Never climb on a machine when it is in operation.
Energy Control (Lockout/Tagout)
ADMO, Inc., employees the use of a Lockout/Tagout Program for machine safety. The Maintenance Supervisor has locks for the machines should they be required for maintenance. Once a machine is locked out, ONLY the person who locked it out may unlock it. If multiple technicians are working on a machine, they must each maintain their own locks to prevent an accidental start-up of a dangerous machine.
Lockout/Tagout is used to prevent any powering up of a machine that may be unsafe. It is important for the protection of our staff as well as the machine itself. If a machine is locked or tagged out, do not turn it on and report directly to the shift supervisor.
Basic Tool Safety
Through the course of your assigned task, you may be required to use knives, cutters, drill bits, heat guns, or other hand tools. If handled improperly, any of these tools may cause an injury. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to provide proper use instructions, training and safety equipment. It is the responsibility of the employee to follow the safety policy and wear the appropriate safety protection.
Safety glasses, ear protection, safety tape, gloves and other instruments are provided to ensure safe execution of tasks. If what appropriate safety equipment is not immediately available, stop the task and contact the supervisor.
Use and store all tools according to manufacture and safety guidelines. Engage all safeties when not in use. It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure they operate and store tools appropriately.
Grinder Safety
q Never reach your hands or arms into a working grinder
q Always wear safety glasses and ear plugs
q Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry
q Always disconnect the power to a grinder when cleaning
q Know the location of the emergency stop button
Secondary Equipment Safety
Drill Presses
q Always use canvas or leather gloves; never use cotton gloves
q Always wear safety glasses
q Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry
q Tie back long hair
q Know the location of the emergency stop or power off switch
q Turn drill press off when not in use
q Always use appropriate safeties and guards
Air Hoses
q Always wear safety glasses
q Always point air hoses away from yourself and others
Forklifts
q Do not walk around a Forklift that is in use
q Be sure you can see the driver at all times
q When driving a forklift, follow all proper safety procedures and practices
Hand trucks and Hand Jacks
q Never overload
q Always push; do not pull
q Ask for help to unload heavy items
Punch Press and Sonic Welders
q Do not tie or tape down any switches or buttons, or alter in any other way
q Always wear safety glasses and ear plugs
q Use appropriate safeties and guards
Hot Stamp Machines
q Do not tie or tape down any switches or buttons, or alter in any other way.

Eye Protection
q Safety glasses are required at all time on the plant floor, regardless of task
q Safety glasses are provided by ADMO, Inc. to all employees and visitors
