Utility Bill Assistance - The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps eligible low-income households pay for home energy services (primarily heating during winter months). Energy costs can place severe and continuing stress on a family’s budget. In some instances, households are forced to make painful decisions regarding which bills to pay and which necessities to survive without. Illinois residents with a household income that does not exceed an amount determined annually by the Department of Commerce are eligible. Annual eligibility levels are determined based on available funding and may not exceed 200% of the federal nonfarm poverty level. Additionally, you will also qualify for assistance with your water and wastewater bills if your household is disconnected, in threat of disconnection or if you are more than $50 in arrears on your current bill. You will apply for Low Income Household Water Assistance (LIHWAP) at the same time you complete your current LIHEAP application.
HelpIllinoisFamilies.com - Expanded energy assistance programming builds on the administration’s $275 million Help Illinois Families initiative, created in 2020 to help reach an unprecedented number of families in crisis and needing financial assistance for utility bills and other household expenses due to the pandemic.
COMED Payment Assistance - Programs offered by COMED to assist with your utility payments.
Utility Energy Assistance - The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program helps eligible individuals and families pay for home heating costs. $200 million is now available in LIHEAP Funds, including expanded benefits this year to help more families in need. The application period runs from Sept. 1 to May 31 or until funds are exhausted. For additional information about income eligibility levels, necessary documentation, and where to apply call the LIHEAP hotline at 1-877-411-927
Water Assistance Program - The new water billing assistance program builds on $327 million in emergency assistance launched earlier this year for low-income families facing difficulty with paying their utility bill and other essential household bills. Residents in need of financial support can visit www.helpillinoisfamilies.com for more information on how to apply for water and other assistance this season.
