We are extremely fortunate to have a very active parent body who help out regularly in school. We love having volunteers helping out with a variety of tasks.
To be a volunteer you will need to be PVG checked. If you contact the school office they will give you information about how to get PVG checked.
As a volunteer you can expect to work with a specific stage within the school on a particular task which will be explained fully.
You may be asked to:
Read with small groups of children – be sure to correct their pronunciation in a fun way and to ask questions to ensure they understand what they are reading. The types of questions should include:
Factual questions - can they remember what happened?
Inferencing questions - can they explain why things happened the way they did based on prior knowledge, what was in the book and logical conclusions?
Make sure they can justify their answers - how do they know they are right?
There may be word games like Memory or Snap to help the children develop their sight vocabulary.
Work with small groups of children on numeracy or writing tasks. These could be games or text based work. The teacher will provide you with directions and materials.
Complete general management tasks such as: photocopy, file, prepare displays etc.
