Some children come to school needing additional support in order to be successful in school. In general pupils require additional support for academic difficulties, wellbeing difficulties or both. We aim to ensure all children develop the necessary social, emotional and mental skills to enable them to learn to their fullest potential.
Our support for learning model is responsive to the mental wellbeing of pupils. When pupils feel hopeful and positive about themselves they will perform better academically.
Class Teacher - The teacher identifies pupils who are struggling at school and the potential problems behind the difficulty
PSA/volunteer support.- pupils identified via tracking meetings get 1-1 or small group support to fill gaps in knowledge or ability.
SFL Teacher - provides bespoke interventions in response to pupil needs and agreed IEPs
Outside Agencies - Outside providers provide alternative contexts for developing resilience, perseverance and team building skills.
Most academic interventions happen in small groups or 1-1 with a pupil support assistant or a volunteer.

Place2Be
Hazlehead Primary School works with Place2Be, a national charity supporting schools to improve the confidence and wellbeing of children and young people.
Place2Be provides emotional and therapeutic support to children and young people, families and staff in more than 450 schools nationwide.
It gives children and young people a space to express themselves through talking and creative work, and to think about any worries they might have. Place2Be also provides support for parents and staff too. Some information below is enclosed to tell you more about Place2Be and its work.
Place2Talk
One of the most popular aspects of this service is called ‘Place2Talk’. It’s open to all children and young people at Hazlehead Primary School. Pupils can make an appointment to spend 15 minutes with a trained counsellor, either by themselves or with a friend. On average, about a third of children and young people who access the service in schools take advantage of this service every year. Children and young people often talk about friendships or any worries they may have.
Place2Be will record your child’s name, date of birth, year group, gender, ethnicity, the broad topic of discussion and any actions taken as a result of the session. This information is stored securely. It is used in a key coded form to evaluate Place2Be’s service and improve our work. For more information on this, please see this link: https://place2be.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/Resources/ESL7oYtcOYBCoDmN8vCV5toB--evuT68xovbaMqqic5wOg?e=wk7zsk
Parent Partnership
Place2Be also offer parental partnership conversations for parents who have a concern about their child's wellbeing but who aren't sure how best to support their child. These conversations are a safe space for parents wanting to explore effective ways of supporting children at home when exhibiting challenging or confusing behaviour.
Parental Agreement for Accessing Place2Talk
Unless we hear otherwise from you, the school and Place2Be will assume that your child has parent/carers’ permission to come to Place2Talk.
If would like to find out more or would prefer that your child does not use this service, please contact Laura Craddock- School Counsellor on Tel: 07977810833 or Email: Laura. Craddock @place2be.org.uk who will be very happy to answer any questions.
