Religious and moral education (non-denominational) involves exploring Beliefs, Values and Issues, Practices and Traditions through the context of both Christianity and other World Religions such as Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism.
It supports children and young people in the development of their own beliefs and values. It looks at developing empathy in terms of respecting and understanding the beliefs of others and ethics in treating others the way we want to be treated.
RME is a process where pupils engage in a search for meaning, value and purpose in life. This involves both the exploration of beliefs and values and the study of how such beliefs and values are expressed. At Hazlehead Primary we teach a balanced awareness of key stories and beliefs from Christianity and other world religions in the following progression:
P1 - Chinese New Year
P2 - Harvest
P3 - Hinduism
P4 - Buddism
P5 - Sikhism
P6 - Islam
P7 - Judaism
