- Timeline: A 10-week virtual English program
- Students: between age 8 - 11 (elementary students)
- Homework:
- Each student has received a Workbook. He/she will try his/her best to complete the weekly homework.
- Ask students to write down what new things/words they learn after each session
- Weekly structure:
- 5 -10 mins - Recall what the students learn last week. Describe their weeks.
- 10-15 mins - Go over their homework assignment.
- 25 mins - Lesson
- 5 mins - What is a new thing the student has learnt today?
- End of program presentation: 5 minute presentation
- Goal:
- 1) provide a platform for students to exercise what they have learned
- 2) feel more confident about speaking English
- Audience: local teachers and mentors
- Some tips for mentors:
- This course is not meant to be academic, so don't worry if you are not professional at teaching English.
- Focus on building relationship with the students. Focus on exercises that build up their confidence: Read with them, learn simple words or sentences.
- Apply the 2-2-2 concept: Student converse with 2 key words - Correct 2 sentences - Help student with 2 new words for vocabulary.
- Don't be too concerned when the students don't understand you or not responsive. Their English level is very basic. Try to move through various exercises, activities to help the students learn even with the language barrier.
- Vietnamese speaker: Please use your own judgement in how much Vietnamese you should speak to your students.
