Description

Nuestra Señora de Prado was a small image brought to Perú in the year 1576 by Antonio Poblete, an appointee of the Spanish government. When he was widowed, he was ordained and built a public oratory near his house in 1602. After the oratory was built in Cercado, the image became a very popular devotion. The statue was later given to his daughter, who erected a shrine in honor of the Marian image in gratitude.

In 1625, the statue was gifted to the Archbishop by Poblete’s family who gave it to the nuns of the Augustinian Monastery to keep.  The nuns decided to build a church to house the image, and the project resulted in one of Perú’s most beautiful Churches.  You can still find the little image there today.  The feast day of Nuestra Señora del Prado is December 18.

Hail Mary

Amen.
