Welcome to the EMG Rotation for Neurology Residents. Please feel free to contact any of us for any concerns!
Description: Usually, Senior EMG rotation would occur at some point during the 4th or 5th year.
EMG Exam: To qualify for the EMG certification exam, 6 months of EMG training must be obtained with >/= 400 EMG studies. Therefore, a logbook must be kept during your EMG rotations. Note: Neuromuscular training does not qualify towards the 6 months of training.
Locations: The EMG rotation is situated in 4C, Kaye Edmonton Clinic. Some clinics will be held at the Glenrose Hospital and some of the rotation could be done with qualified EMG neurologists in the Community.
Clinic Schedules: Your EMG clinic schedules will be provided to you via Google Docs prior to your rotation. Be sure to notify the appropriate Administrator if you are unable to attend any of the scheduled clinics as soon as possible.
Rotation Coordinator: Dr George Elleker (gelleker@ualberta.ca)
When: PGY 3-5
Duration: 4-8 weeks (more can be taken depending on residents career path)
Description: This rotation is intended to enable residents to meet eligibility requirements for the EMG examination of the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists. Residents will typically complete all of the requirements in the EMG Laboratory at UAH. Part of the rotation may be scheduled at the Glenrose Hospital EMG Laboratory.
It is the resident's responsibility to notify the clinic in advance when they will be absent (post call, conference, vacation, etc)
Assessment: A final on-line (WebEval) evaluation will be completed by the rotation co-ordinator based on the integrated input from all rotation supervisors and the evaluation will be reviewed face-to-face with the resident. Input will be sought from the technologist staff as appropriate. This evaluation will incorporate the case-log with regard to the completion of all the objectives relating to the Medical Expert role. In addition each resident final evaluation will include results of:
a minimum of 3 direct observations by supervisors of full patient encounters
a short-answer and case-based written exit exam
cross-reading of 3 resident EDx reports by different supervisors.
On-going formative feedback will be provided by supervisors and the rotation coordinator will meet face-to-face with resident to provide mid-rotation summative feedback.
