An out-going Resident Elective is any trainee who is currently enrolled in a University of Alberta Postgraduate Medical Education program and is planning to pursue an elective experience outside the University of Alberta as part of their postgraduate training. Rotation objectives must be clearly determined and appropriate evaluations obtained.
The PGME office must be informed of all out-going Resident Electives.
It is the resident’s responsibility to make sure they have adequate liability insurance as CMPA covers electives in Canada only.
Residents travelling to the United States for electives should contact the state authority for insurance information.

Once you have made your elective arrangements, you will need to complete the following forms:
Outgoing Elective Form- Interprovincial
Outgoing Elective Form- International
Elective CanMEDS Goals and Objectives Form
Submit the completed form to the Program Director for approval. Once your elective is approved, send the signed confirmation letter/form to the Program Coordinator and PGME office
Be sure to see what the host University elective process is in advance. Some Universities may require you complete an 'in-coming elective' type of form.
CALGARY ELECTIVES: 1st Contact Chris at 403-944-1148 for all neurology electives (anything with Neuro in it)
NOTE: Interprovincial Forms must be completed and approved at least 3 months prior to the start date of the elective.

UPDATE:
Residents may have a maximum of three blocks/months of allocated OUT-GOING elective time per program. Any elective exceeding this limit must be pre-approved by the PGME Associate Dean via Program Director.
