Each resident has funding available for professional expenses. (books)
PGME will deposit $900 into each residents account in the fall. This is to be used first prior to submitting receipts for the Program's additional funding of $500
Due to funding being slightly different for CARMS vs VISA residents the monies available for professional expenses and conferences varies slightly. Please ensure that you have spoken to the program coordinator regarding what funding you have available before making purchases to ensure you will be reimbursed.
The program coordinator keeps track of all spending and can be contacted to see what you have remaining as the year goes on.
If you wish to purchase a textbook please get in touch with Brenda first, and the book can be ordered using the PCard so you are not out any money. If you do purchase a book on your own send the receipt to Brenda for processing.
Each resident will need to enter in their current mailing address on the contact spreadsheet (Link). This will be used to complete the reimbursement form so please make sure that the address is current should you move anytime during residency.
If you attend a conference you will need to ensure you submit all of the following to your Program Coordinator:
Registration receipt
Hotel detailed receipt (if applicable)
Airfare detailed receipt (if applicable)
Name Badge (in person) Certificate of attendance (virtual)
Statement showing conversion to Canadian dollars (if applicable)
Conference claims cannot be put through until after the conference date so please keep this in mind when sending receipts.
Call stipends are submitted to PARA by the rotation from which the service was provided. When you are scheduled for home-call and are required to come in for more than four hours, one hour being after midnight, your home-call stipend changes to in-house stipend status. Be sure to sign the appropriate PARA form for each date this occurs and notify the chief resident who submits the information to PARA.
Senior residents doing overnight call: If you are in the hospital four or more hours (One hour being after midnight). You need to email medneuro@ualberta.ca for any switch calls you have done by the end of the block
Note: For those taking Extender calls, keep in mind that each shift is included in the number of calls allowed in each block, according to PARA. You are allowed 9 home calls in a 28 day block. You will not be paid for additional days. If you do get paid accidentally, AHS will contact you to recover their money.
