Senior neurology rotation to be completed as a balanced combination of outpatient Adult Epilepsy Clinics, and EEG reading (focusing on the technology of EEG recording and its clinical uses). There is some flexibility in the rotation, as residents may chose to spend relatively more time seeing epilepsy patients, or more time reading EEGs. Residents are encouraged to participate in seeing patients admitted to the epilepsy monitoring unit on 4G3 for long-term video/EEG telemetry. Residents are expected to read the recommended materials over the course of the rotation, and to receive informal teaching from the epileptologists.
When: during PGY-3, PGY4, or PGY-5
Duration: Total duration 2 months (blocks) over the course of PGY years 3-5.
Coordinator: Dr. T Nowacki

Attend EEG reading in PM (5 days per week)
Round on patients admitted to 4G3 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (coordinate with supervising neurologist)
Attend EEG rounds (Thursdays at 9AM in WMC 1J2.13)
Attend Seizure conference (Fridays at 11 AM - 12 PM in WMC 4H1.02) EEG/Epilepsy residents are excused from AHD to attend Seizure conference
Give one presentation either at EEG Rounds, or at Seizure Conference
Rotation Schedule:
Be sure to check with each epileptologist's administrative assistant (or look up schedule on Connect Care) as dates may change without notice.
EEG studies are typically interpreted and reported in the afternoons.

The Epilepsy and EEG Reading Lists
Contain many useful articles (with links to fulltext pdf files) to guide your readings during the rotation.
The lists are continuously updated and residents are welcome to submit articles of interest. Residents are not expected to read every single article and textbook listed, but efforts should be made to read the ones marked as highly relevant with [***].
Additional Information:
Select anti-epileptic drugs at a glance (useful to familiarize yourself with when reviewing AEDs with patients)
CSCN EEG Exam Requirements (for residents interested in taking the EEG exam)
