You will be receiving an email this week (week of May 20th) regarding mandatory Duke Minor's Training and the required Duke Background Check. Please be sure those are complete within the following timelines: Background Check (May 31) and Mandatory Training (June 15th). Duke is updating their system, but it is likely that if you are a returning instructor and/or Duke employee, your background check will still be valid from when you originally completed it.
Complete the following Mandated Reporter Training (free video training) and upload your Certificate of Completion to the link above by June 15th, 2024. If you are already considered a Mandated Reporter due to another professional capacity or you've already completed the training, please upload your documentation that shows proof of your status. Please note that training says it takes 4 hours...but it actually does not.
The students have a brief orientation from 9:00 am - 9:45 am on the first Monday of each session, July 1st and July 15th. Class will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, July 1st and Monday, July 15th, however, all other classes of the session will begin at 9:00 AM. We will hold the Instructor Meeting during this time as students will be in orientation. During this meeting, you will meet the onsite staff and go over any other key information. Any other details that need to be communicated prior to the program start date will be sent via email. This meeting will be held on Duke's East campus, exact location will be communicated to instructors prior to the program start date. Looking forward to seeing you all and meeting some of you in person!
All classes will be held on campus. Parking can be requested in advance. If you have not done so already, please email Katie (kbegley@terraeducation.com) to request a parking pass for your time on campus by May 31st, (info requested: car make, model, year, color, license plate and state).
Instruction time begins promptly at 9:00 am daily, Monday-Friday. Please plan to arrive ahead of the start time in order to get settled, especially as our students will be arriving by 9:00 every day. You will have an assigned staff member ("Mentor") for your course who will be assisting you with any needs. Classrooms are in the confirmation stage with Duke and you will receive the name of your classroom and location once it is finalized. Classrooms will likely being taking place on Duke's East Campus, but you will be receiving more information in the coming weeks.
All classrooms are equipped with projectors and Wi-Fi. We advise you to use your own laptop since the classrooms do not contain these. Students will come with their own laptop and most likely a smartphone.
Please come prepared with any necessary printouts/photocopies for your sessions. This is a reimbursable cost.
Should you require any specialized supplies or materials, please submit your request to Katie (kbegley@terraeducation.com) prior to June 1st. If you purchase your own supplies without pre-approval, Summer Springboard will not provide reimbursement.
7. Curriculum and Session Content
In advance of the program, the course curriculum and all supporting documents will be shared with you via Dropbox or a Google Drive folder. If you are creating your own curriculum, please remember to use this slide deck (you will need to make a copy) for your daily slides.
We highly recommend you download any materials to your computer or flash drive/USB stick to mitigate any unforeseen technology glitches that may occur.
8. Closing out the Session
You are a huge part of the Summer Springboard program and we thank you in advance for your hard work. Instructors have a significant impact on our students' experience on campus.
All instructors are required to write a reference letter for their students. You do not need to create one for each student, we will be mail merging from the template. You are welcome to use a generic template if you choose. You will need to download, customize with information related to the course and excursions, sign, and return to kbegley@terraeducation.com in Word or Google Doc format. Please only edit the information in red font, we will be merging all other information for the students.
Please use the below invoice template (download first, then modify and save) and send it to kbegley@terraeducation.com by August 10th. We have a maximum 30 day of payment once you submit your invoice.
Invoice Template - to be completed upon the end of your summer teaching. You will need to make a copy as this is a template.
