Complete the following Mandated Reporter Training (free video training) and upload your Certificate of Completion to the link above by June 7th, 2024. If you are already considered a Mandated Reporter due to another professional capacity or you've already completed the training, please upload documentation showing proof. Please note training indicates 4 hours, it does not take that long.
You should have already received a notification from Data Source. Returning instructors do not need to do a new one. If you need the request sent again, please contact marissa@summerspringboard.com
California's Department of Justice (DOJ) requires all adults working with minors in CA to have fingerprinting completed before employment start in order to check the DOJ criminal history database. Even if you completed a Live Scan last year or for another purpose in CA, you still need to complete a Live Scan for Summer Springboard @ Cal Poly as results are not shared between entities. Once your results have been received by Summer Springboard @ Cal Poly, you will be notified. All SSB @ Cal Poly instructors will be reimbursed for the cost of the Live Scan. Please include the receipt and amount on the invoice that you submit at the end of the program (see final item below). You can schedule and complete your Live Scan on campus following this link: CP Live Scan. Additional nearby options include San Luis Obispo County Sheriff and Foothill Plaza UPS. The cost ideal locations are the Cal Poly and County Sheriff locations.
Please follow the direction here to fill out your live scan form.
We will have a brief meeting the first morning of the session to review key information. This will be the chance to meet the RA/Mentors assigned to your class as well. Any other details that we feel you need before the program starts will be sent via email.
The students have a brief orientation from 9:00am - 9:45am on the first Monday of their session. Class will not begin until 10:00am on Monday, July 1 (Session 1) and July 15 (Session 2). It is during this time that we will hold the Instructor Briefing. Your briefing will be held in Bldg. 52-E28. Once the instructor briefing has concluded the instructors and their Resident Advisors/Mentors will walk to Phillips Hall together to retrieve their students and walk back to your classroom or lab.
All classes will be held in Building 26. For summer parking for SSB @ Cal Poly faculty, you will be the requestor and your department chair will be the approver. For GrC faculty, Colleen advised that Michelle has already sent this out. For anyone who still has to request summer parking, please use this link to initiate your request as soon as possible. Thanks!
All classes will be held on campus. Instruction time begins promptly at 9:00 am daily, Monday-Friday. Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of the start time in order to get into your classroom, get settled, and check A/V and lab equipment. Your assigned RA/Mentor(s) will be available to ensure that you can enter the building and the classroom.
Please let us know by June 1st if you require any additional special setup for your classroom. You will need to use your own laptop since the classrooms do not contain these. All classrooms come equipped with projectors, Wi-Fi, and a whiteboard. Students will come with their own laptops and most likely a smartphone.
Please come prepared with any necessary printouts/photocopies for your sessions. This is a reimbursable cost. Colleen has advised that UGS may also be able to assist with copies or printouts, if they're given enough notice. Please submit any UGS requests to Colleen as soon as possible to ensure you will have what you need for your class prior to the start of the program.
Should you require any specialized supplies or materials, please submit your request to Marissa (marissa@summerspringboard.com) prior to June 1st.
8. Curriculum/Session Content
Since you will be creating your own curriculum in Cal Poly's Canvas LMS, you may not require this template. However, if you aren't planning to use Canvas, please feel free to use this branded SSB @ Cal Poly slide template (you will need to make a copy) for your daily slides. If there is anyone not planning to utilize Cal Poly's Canvas LMS, you are also welcome to use the branded SSB @ CP curriculum organizer to plan out the details of your course.
We highly recommend that you download any materials to your computer or flash drive/USB stick to mitigate any unforeseen technology glitches that may occur. We also recommend that you have a back-up plan (virtual guest speaker, short one-day assignment) for some unforeseen reason you are not able to teach for one of the days.
On the third day of class, students will complete a brief pulse check. This form will gauge how students are feeling about the class and the program thus far. The responses will be shared with the instructor the next day.
Marissa has created a Master Schedule (link coming) file that contains many of the details about this summer's program including: daily schedules, student rosters, additional forms, excursion and transportation details, etc. Please be sure to bookmark this file so that you may have it as a resource for your reference.
9. Communication with students, RA/Mentors & Cal Poly @ SSB team
During the program, you will be using your Canvas LRM email to communicate with your students. Outside of class, our students, RA/Mentors & Cal Poly @ SSB team will be utilizing the Remind app to communicate updates, inform everyone of any delays or changes to the schedule, and coordinate details of the program. If you anticipate any changes or need to update your entire class, please advise your RA/Mentor to also communicate those changes via their Remind app.
10. Course Wrap Up
All instructors are required to write a reference letter for their students. You are welcome to use our generic version, if you choose. Please download and customize with information related to the course including excursions, projects, and any notable activities or assignments. Then save, sign and return in Word or Google Doc format to marissa@summerspringboard.com
Please submit your invoices to me by August 10 using this Invoice Template. Include any pre-approved reimbursement for supplies.
