 Fall 2023     Poetry

Celestial Infatuation

Katherine Weinhold

He approaches me as if I light the moon each night

Hands extending in wonder, seeking to understand

         Adoration that permeates every juncture

Awestruck premonitions of “it is you”

Revelations as complex as the cosmos.

He contemplates me as if I am a mirage

Hesitant arms encircle me, solidifying into the hope of permanence

A vision he seeks to keep on earth

Reaching to embrace me before I am even near

Introspection as profound as our silence

He gazes at me as if I dusted the cosmos with stars

Flashing eyes open wider, as if he cannot see enough

Twinkling moss memorizes me

Images burning into history

Connection as expansive as our universe

He speaks to me as if I am divine

Whispers that sound like prayers meant for a god

Confessions offered in sacred vulnerability

Familiarity weaving into roots

Soul ties as binding as orbits

He avows my worth as if I am a celestial being

My soul incomprehensible in the mortal realm

I question if I can mean that much

“You know, you have to know”

Truth as evident as constellations

Among my Greed
