Dear Avalon Readers,
Welcome to the Spring 2026 edition of Avalon Literature and Arts Magazine! Coming off our most recent REALM award, we are excited to present to you our newest edition. After hosting our Fall 2025 Edition launch party at Espresso Bar in Old Town Winchester, we have continued to build our community outreach beyond Shenandoah University, hosting multiple fundraising events and creative endeavors on campus, and are planning more to come within the greater Winchester community.
This semester, we are sinking our teeth into many of the grotesque realities of our world. This edition is marked with elements of the visceral, the uncanny, and the melancholic. In it, we explore themes of trauma and death through a new, poetic lens that finds clarity even in the grittiness of experience. We lift up the proverbial rock of life in an effort to see the bugs and worms under it living in beautiful, yet maybe uncomfortable harmony.
We often think of Avalon as a place of healing and respite, but it is also the place where the great weapon Excalibur was forged. Our Spring 2026 edition embodies the apex of this paradox. As editors, we celebrate the whimsical elements of art, but we also welcome the sharp, cutting edges of it, too. Excalibur is a blade of legend. Its history speaks of exceptional heroism but also tremendous violence. Our magazine hosts a plethora of works that have lifted the sword from the stone, dawning a new age in our long and storied history.
Our editorial team would like to thank our dear readers for their ongoing support. We are humbled that Avalon can be a home for so many artists, writers, and visionaries. If you cannot get enough of this edition, be sure to check out our Instagram for more poetry, prose, and artwork from our editorial team, as well as updates on upcoming events and partnerships. With that, we present to you the Spring 2026 edition of Avalon!
